Polytrack Maintenance

Below is a daily report produced by Woodbine's track superintendent which outlines the planned maintenance* for the Polytrack. The following are two definitions of the equipment used to harrow and loosen the Polytrack.

Cultivator: is regularly performed to loosen up the Polytrack which tightens up over time depending on the temperature and weather.

Gallop Master: is an attachment that is pulled by a normal tractor. It removes the hoof prints by dragging steel pins through the top 1 ½ inches of the Polytrack. The Gallop Master is the equivalent of the harrowing tractor that is used to groom the dirt track; it takes approximately 12 minutes to circle the track once at a setting of an inch and a half.

Power-harrowing: is a more laborious procedure that is regularly performed to loosen up the Polytrack, which tightens up over time, depending on the temperature and weather. The Power-harrow can take anywhere from a few hours to half a day to complete, depending on the depth of the setting, which can be as high as five inches.
